The proverbial Indian parched summers have barely set in and an unprecedented water crisis is raising its head in several parts of the country. Panchayat elections in Andhra Pradesh scheduled for June may be postponed. The opposition may take advantage of acute drinking water shortage in the state, the Chief Minister feels. Across the country in Gujarat, Amreli town near Rajkot observed a complete bandh in March over its drinking water crisis.
